Stop second-guessing your dahlia tubers

If you've ever stood in front of a freshly dug dahlia clump wondering:

  • Where are the eyes?
  • Where do I cut?
  • How do I store these?
  • What if I get it wrong?

You're not alone.

In fact, when I recently asked dahlia growers whether they would know exactly where to cut a dahlia clump, 85% said no. Not because dividing dahlias is difficult.

But because there's so much conflicting information online that many gardeners become worried about making a mistake.

This workshop was created to help gardeners move from feeling uncertain to feeling confident.

You don't need to become a dahlia expert. You just need enough confidence to tackle the first clump.

What You'll Leave With

  • Confidence to dig and divide your own tubers
  • A clear understanding of where eyes form
  • Confidence knowing where and why to cut
  • Practical storage options you can use at home
  • The ability to make informed decisions rather than relying on guesswork
  • Your own dug and divided dahlia tubers
  • The tools used during the workshop (yours to keep)
  • Exclusive early access to our annual dahlia tuber sale

Most importantly, you'll leave with the confidence to tackle your own tubers without second-guessing yourself.

About the Workshop

You're not coming to sit and take notes.

You're coming to get your hands in the dirt and learn how to actually dig, divide and store dahlias — here on a working flower farm.

If you've ever looked at a big tangled dahlia clump and thought "I have no idea where to start"… this workshop is for you.

This is a small-group, hands-on experience working directly with real field-grown dahlia clumps.

You'll learn the exact process we use here at Petal & Bee each season step by step.

No fluff. No overwhelm. No fancy gardening jargon.

Just real plants, real tools, and real learning.

You'll be doing it, not watching it.

What You'll Learn

During this 2.5-hour workshop, you'll learn:

  • What, How and When we dig dahlia clumps on the farm
  • The tools I use each season for dividing
  • How to identify eyes
  • How to divide clumps step-by-step
  • Common mistakes
  • How I store dahlias over winter here on the farm

This session is focused purely on digging, dividing and storing — not general growing advice.

Do I Need Experience?

Absolutely not. In fact, many attendees will be dividing dahlias for the very first time.

This workshop is designed specifically for gardeners who want to better understand what they're looking at and feel more confident when it comes time to dig, divide and store their tubers.

You don't need to arrive knowing where the eyes are. You don't need to know where to cut. You don't need to have divided a dahlia before. That's exactly what we're here to learn.

What To Expect

A real working flower farm experience:

  • Dirty hands
  • Muddy boots
  • Plenty of laughs
  • Tea, coffee, hot chocolate (non-negotiable)
  • Morning tea (also non-negotiable)
  • Hands-on learning the entire time
  • Ducks supervising with no useful input
  • A relaxed, unpolished farm morning

We'll also walk the farm and talk through what's happening behind the scenes over winter.

No experience needed — just curiosity and shoes you don't mind destroying.

Meet Your Host

Hi, I'm Nerida. I'm the flower farmer behind Petal & Bee Flower Farm.

After a cancer diagnosis in 2020, I left office work behind to pursue my passion for horticulture and build the flower farm that exists today.

Most of what I know about dahlias didn't come from a single book, video or workshop. It came from years of digging, dividing, making mistakes and learning season after season.

Every winter I still come across clumps that make me stop and think for a moment. That's normal. What experience gives you is confidence in knowing what matters and what doesn't.

This workshop brings together those years of experience to help shorten the learning curve for others.

My goal isn't to make you a dahlia expert. My goal is to help you leave feeling confident enough to tackle your own tubers at home.

Exclusive Early Access to Our Dahlia Tuber Sale

As a little bonus for joining us on the farm, workshop attendees will receive exclusive early access to our upcoming dahlia tuber sale before it opens to our email subscribers or the public.

If you've ever missed out on a variety you had your eye on, you'll understand exactly how valuable that can be.

You'll receive first access before release day madness begins. And quietly... not everything heading into the sale is listed on the website yet. First pick before the general rush.
